Motion Raceworks Rocky Mountain Race Week Daily Coverage: Day One Action From Thunder Valley

Rocky Mountain Race Week is in the books, and we were traveling the route with all these folks so we could bring you the FREE livestream that we had going all week long. It was a week full of fun, adventures, carnage, and more, but even if you were there you wouldn’t have been able to see it all. There is that much going on! But thanks to the folks at Motion Raceworks we’ve got more cool video coverage from the entire week and we’re going to share it all with you one day at a time. They were on-site with their parts merch trailer and were helping people out with great stuff all week long. This is the first video from Day One at Thunder Valley in Noble Oklahoma, which means everyone is racing and there is no on road carnage or anything yet. This is the day where everyone thinks everything is great and that they can win this whole thing. Spirits are high. At least until the racing gets going.

Why? Because some of these poor folks are going to tear their stuff up before they ever get to leave the first track. The good news is that they have all night to work on them because we don’t leave for the next track until the next morning, and the drive isn’t horrible from Thunder Valley to the Texas Motorplex in Ennis. Plus, there is the World’s Largest Summit Racing Equipment store on the way and it’s full of great parts to fix most anything.

Between Summit and the Motion Raceworks trailer full of parts, there was no shortage of new stuff going on hot rods Sunday night.

Here is the video description:

Power Tour Photos: America’s Greatest Road Trip Had Awesome Muscle Cars, Trucks, Classics, Hot Rods, And More!

(Photos by Mike Brooks) Our Power Tour photo coverage continues with even more awesome rides from America’s best hot rod road trip. Muscle cars, hot rods, trucks, and more cruising the highways and byways of North America in search of fun, food, and great memories make for great photos and we’ve got more right here.

Mike was originally just going to show up for one or two stops on Power Tour this year and ended up staying for more because he was having such a good time. He’s got a rad square body C10 that was Caddy powered for many years, but after breaking it one too many times he decided to step up and get himself a brand spankin new crate engine from Blueprint Engines and is loving it. If you haven’t been on Hot Rod’s Power Tour, it is the ultimate traveling car show and has been a staple in the hot rodding community for decades. We’ve done it a jillion times and love the event, and so will you if you decide to go next year. We’ve got five galleries of photos from Mike, and as always can’t thank him enough for sending them in.

Here’s what Mike had to say when he emailed us saying he had photos to share.

Finally got my truck back on Power Tour this year. We only planned on hitting the first 3 stops and did so without issue. The truck and it’s new blueprint small block performed flawlessly as I put on 1100 miles from the time I pulled out of my garage until I put it back. We hit Norwalk, Dayton, and Indy as well as a little after party at Graham Rahal performance.

Bonneville Speed Week 2021: Our Bonneville Speed Week Photos Start Right Here With The Nugget Car Show Hot Rod Photos!

(Photos by Wes Allison) Bonneville Speed Week 2021 officially starts tomorrow morning with cars, trucks, streamliners, lakesters, and more hauling ass on the salt at Bonneville. But no Bonneville Speed Week is really on before the Nugget Car Show that kicks off Friday night. There are a jillion people that come to Bonneville Speed Week to watch, but the biggest crowd shows up sometime Friday and spend Saturday and Sunday watching the action before heading home to wherever they came from on Sunday night. That means that the Friday and Saturday night car show at the Nugget Casino is THE place to be on Friday night in Wendover and there is plenty of beer flowing to celebrate.

This year promises to be an amazing year at Bonneville with all kinds of new cars making their debut and some old cars coming back out for the first time in years. Plus, the piston engine and wheel-driven all-time records are being aimed at with everything people can throw at them this year. We’ll see how the salt is, but we’re hoping for some big things this year at Bonneville.

As we say, this is our first gallery of photos and we’ll have tons of them coming throughout the week as we have Wes Allison on-site to shoot everything he can point a camera at. We’re going to make sure you have all the photos you could want and are going to start it off right with this gallery tonight and another one in the morning. Check it out!

2021 Goodguys Summit Racing Equipment Nationals Photo Coverage: More Cool Cars, Trucks, Bruisers, and Hot Rods From The Show!

(Photos by Wes Allison) – We’re back with more great images from the 2021 Goodguys Summit Racing Equipment Nationals presented by PPG. This was a monster of a show that totally bounced back from a 2020 cancellation for reasons that need no explanation. Goodguys has been a juggernaut in the car show industry for decades now and like everything else, people were wondering what 2021 would look like after most hot rodders had a “year off”. Well, the answer is that it looks pretty damned good. We’re talking about record car counts, spectator counts, and the complete spectrum of vehicles that you can image.

From the most modern cutting edge pro touring cars to the laid out International Harvester you see in the lead image, that’s what this massive gathering was all about. Horsepower, style, friends, family, and fun. Check out the photos!

Ratty Muscle Cars presents Mopar Vs. Brand X 2020: Sending The Year Off With Screaming Engines

The one thing that stands out about Ratty Muscle Cars events isn’t that the cars are wicked fast, or that they are just rough versions of dream machines. It’s that they are used and not with kid gloves, either. Proof of point: the nicest cars on the property were getting just as rowdy as the purpose-built beaters who were designed to be moss-covered, dented and faded street hustlers. The lone Ford Maverick that showed up blasted Muletown Dyno’s rollers to the tune of over 500 horsepower and torque in the six hundreds. Dylan McCool was dry-launching his Cordoba in the back forty trying to figure out an off-the-line bog. I had my wife’s car, and all of it’s maybe 100 mildly irritated horsepower, in the burnout box lighting up at least one rear tire for all it was worth just for the hell of it. If there was a skidpad or a burnout arena, you can bet that most, if not all of these machines would be out there tearing donuts, cutting up and showing their ass. That is the point to the whole Ratty Muscle Cars movement: it’s just a car. Go out, do stuff and have fun with it.

The natural beauty of the day and location is one thing…touring through leafy backroads and fields of cotton in the middle of baling was amazing. But the most beautiful thing of all caught just about everybody off guard. A few days before the rescheduled event, J.D. Posey, the man with the beaten but beastly 1980 Dodge Aspen A38 that we featured, passed on. He had been at every one of these deals, and before that was a well-known and well-respected racer in the region. Suffice it to say that I was not expecting the Aspen to come rolling through the gates early in the morning. His widow, Pam, had brought the car in as one of J.D.’s last requests, and while there were tears around that story, there were plenty of smiles as well as she wheeled the Dodge around with everybody else.

Just before I left to make the trek back north in the Great Pumpkin Mustang, McCool and I had one last chat with Austin, and the sum of the conversation was this: we needed this Saturday. We needed to get out of the house, surround ourselves with friends, and enjoy one last gasp of nice, warm weather before we’re stuck inside for the winter. We needed this breather from the bullshit of this year. We needed to get into an old car and just go for a drive, and maybe let it all hang out a little bit before we settle back into the sofa and start dreaming of a turkey dinner.

And maybe, just maybe, we might do this again in the spring.

Bonneville Speed Week Video: Record Setting Runs And Muscle Cars On The Salt During Speed Week 2020

What truly makes Bonneville Speed Week special is the variety of vehicles that you see hauling ass down the salt. Different body styles, different engine combos, and different visions are what Bonneville Speed Week is all about, and it is what people who come for the first time always comment on. There are so many classes, so many combos within those classes, and so much flexibility in how you build your perfect race car for Speed Week, that there is no way that any two are exactly the same. Streamliners, Lakesters, door cars, roadsters, and sports cars just scratch the surface as there are so many different classes, variations, and interpretations of each of these classifications. When you watch the two videos below, one that is all record runs from Bonneville Speed Week 2020, and the other that is nothing but Muscle Cars on the salt, you’ll get to see just how cool this place is and just how cool the racing is.

Watch and see what you think and tell us what vehicle in these videos is your favorite. Would you rather drive a streamliner down the salt? A lakester? That’s like a streamliner but with the wheels hanging out. Or a door car? Maybe a roadster?

Watch and tell us what you think.

Event Preview: Street Car Takeover Bowling Green

Drag racing…I’ve missed it. I’ve enjoyed the projects at home, I’ve enjoyed a relaxed travel schedule, and I fully understand why things are the way they are, but man, does it feel…wrong. I’m used to coming home smelling of race fuel, burnt rubber and the distinct odor that occurs when someone my size is out in hot and humid temperatures far too long. I miss the beautiful tones of the engines. I miss the fun of it all, the atmosphere, the mechanical violence, the trackside food, all of it. Which means that I was over the moon to see that Street Car Takeover Bowling Green was still a go. With the way this year has gone, there was no guarantee that any of this was going to happen, so when I dropped in to get my pass, I was pleased to see cars. I was not so pleased to see that racing was starting in a couple of hours. Blame it on poor planning, but I didn’t think that Friday night was going to have any action.

Yes, it’s been that long since I’ve been to a proper race, not counting Rocky Mountain Race Week. Don’t bother commenting, I know.

So I did the smart thing: I quickly walked around and snapped a few photos in the daylight before hauling ass back to the house, with my wife on the phone as she put the camera battery on the charger. You’ll see plenty of shots from the action later in the evening soon, but for now, here’s what was on the ground. Click on a photo below to check them out:

FREE LIVE STREAMING Drag Racing: The Xtreme Texas Nationals Featuring The Mid-West Drag Racing Series

Saturday: Racing scheduled for 6 P.M. Central!

No, your eyes didn’t deceive you, the name is accurate: the Summit Racing Equipment Mid-West Drag Racing Series, the former Mid-West Pro Mod Series, is throwing down big-time at Xtreme Raceway Park in Ferris, Texas and BangShift.com will be bringing you the action LIVE starting Friday afternoon! So, what’s with the name change? Well, it’s because more than just Pro Mods will be taking part! In addition to the howlers we’ve been showing you since day one, there is now a $20,000 to win Funny Car class that will battle it out for a hell of a pot. How many will be contesting for the cash? Hopefully more than a few…if there are more than 13 cars in the field, there’s money in the semi-finals and the quarters! X275 will also be on the grounds, running the event as a 2020 points race. Dragsters, Top Sportsman, Outlaw Big Tire (no time) and Junior Dragsers will be running as well.

BangShiftChad will be our man on the ground for the event, so tune in starting Friday evening for the noise from the south. Keith Haney and the crew are back in business, and business is GOOD!
