Motion Raceworks Rocky Mountain Race Week Daily Coverage: Day One Action From Thunder Valley

Rocky Mountain Race Week is in the books, and we were traveling the route with all these folks so we could bring you the FREE livestream that we had going all week long. It was a week full of fun, adventures, carnage, and more, but even if you were there you wouldn’t have been able to see it all. There is that much going on! But thanks to the folks at Motion Raceworks we’ve got more cool video coverage from the entire week and we’re going to share it all with you one day at a time. They were on-site with their parts merch trailer and were helping people out with great stuff all week long. This is the first video from Day One at Thunder Valley in Noble Oklahoma, which means everyone is racing and there is no on road carnage or anything yet. This is the day where everyone thinks everything is great and that they can win this whole thing. Spirits are high. At least until the racing gets going.

Why? Because some of these poor folks are going to tear their stuff up before they ever get to leave the first track. The good news is that they have all night to work on them because we don’t leave for the next track until the next morning, and the drive isn’t horrible from Thunder Valley to the Texas Motorplex in Ennis. Plus, there is the World’s Largest Summit Racing Equipment store on the way and it’s full of great parts to fix most anything.

Between Summit and the Motion Raceworks trailer full of parts, there was no shortage of new stuff going on hot rods Sunday night.

Here is the video description:

Finnegan’s Twin Turbo Jet Boat Finally Hauls Some Ass! Watch Out World, Mike Is Going 130 MPH Now!

If you’ve been following along as Finnegan and Newbern thrash on projects, you know that the giant Hemi headed big-block twin-turbo jet boat has been fun but also a bit frustrating. The thing runs great, makes stupid power, and Finnegan has got a handle on the tune, but the problem has been that the boat runs out of water pretty quick and can’t accelerate for long enough to actually make a full drag boat pass. If you can’t get enough water into the jet pump to keep it fed, then it cavitates and stops pushing the boat forward. There are a few ways to get more water into the pump, which Finnegan has gone over on a couple of videos, but while each adjustment has made the boat better, it just hasn’t gotten it working well enough. Until now.

Yep, they’ve made some more adjustments and they are finally all working together and this thing is starting to haul ass!

Unfortunately, those adjustments required a grinder. As if the hull didn’t have a big enough hole in it already? Jet boats have a giant hole in the bottom of them, which is a little un-nerving when you think about the fact that holes in boats are usually not a good thing.

Mike will explain, so watch and enjoy.

Car Hauler Rebuild And Remodel: Windows, Kitchen Design, And More! This Thing Is Going To Be Rad!

Everyone wants one of those big giant toterhomes with the huge stacker trailer and all the fancy stuff that goes along with it, but most of us have zero shot of actually being able to afford something like that. I know I’ve considered buying an older gooseneck car hauler with the intention of building a nice and efficient living space in it that would still allow me to haul a car or two to the races. Well Emily and Aaron are doing just that and if you have missed any of the previous episodes, just click the link below and you can watch from the beginning.

In this episode new parts are actually starting to go into the trailer including big new windows that will make the bedroom area super nice. There will be no doubts that everyone will be jealous of their cool digs at the races. In addition to the windows, there are also new parts coming in and the kitchen planning is turning into kitchen construction. This isn’t an ultra fancy build, but it will definitely be cool, comfy, and useful. They are putting lots of thought into how each element will be used and that’s cool to see.

When Last Minute Testing Your Burnout Truck For Cleetus And Cars, Sometimes Your Driveway Becomes The Burnout Pad

Yep, James is no poser, that’s for sure. When under a time crunch to get their LS Swapped S10 Burnout truck, aka Burnie, ready for Cleetus and Cars Burnout Rivals in Indy, sometimes you have to piss off the neighbors. After stealing the trans out of his race car, and going through brake issues and a couple other snags, Burnie was back up and running with just hours to go before leaving for Indy. Of course there were a couple other snags and just an hour before it had to be on the trailer there was testing that needed going. After all, you got to know if there are vibrations, if the new torque converter is okay, and whether the brakes will hold for big time tire frying excitement or not.

Testing was in order and with no time to go anywhere else, the driveway became the burnout pad whether the neighbors liked it or not. Now I happen to know James’ neighborhood. I went there to pick up some tires he hooked me up with for the drive days on Rocky Mountain Race Week in 2019. It’s your average Colorado high desert neighborhood with family homes all around. This is not the country, and it is not remote. It is very close to town.

But the testing had to happen and the results were no vibrations, a tune that needs some tweaks, and brakes that need more bleeding to hold. But most importantly the smoke happened. And lots of it. Watch.

Autopsy Of A Dyno Mule: Real St Performance Tears Down A Stock Block and Crank 1,850hp 2JZ To Check Its Guts

Engines tell us things when we take them apart after they’re used, right? We look to see how things are wearing, what stuff is wearing and shouldn’t and what we can do better the next time we put one together. In this case we join the crew at Real St Performance, one of the neatest and most accomplished shops in the country. These guys are wizards with a lot of stuff but the 2JZ engine platform is definitely their wheelhouse. The engine you are going to see being taken down was build to be used as a dyno mule to test a new piston design for the Toyota inline six. You’ll see what worked, what didn’t and what these guys learned from the component inspection.

What we dig most about this video is the honesty. It would have been easy to pull it down and say, “Yep, everything is awesome and we wouldn’t change a thing, we crushed it!” Well, they did crush it because the thing made 1,850hp with a stock block and crank but the parts in a few places were not the happiest. Not the stuff you may be expecting, either, and maybe not for the reasons you are expecting.

Engine forensics at their finest. Check out this gnarly 2JZs guts!

The Fall Fling At Galot LIVE Continues Sunday For $125,000!

The Fling events, whether the Spring Fling, Spring Fling Million, Fall Flings, etc, are some of the finest run bracket races in the world. They have arguably changed the landscape of bracket racing in this country as well, because big money bracket races now provide so much more than just round after round of racing action. These events are a party, a celebration of all things racing, and a show of appreciation to the racers who compete week in and week out to see who can come out on top. But in these uncertain times of COVID-19, just getting to hold an event can be a challenge, even before you get a single car through the gate.

Historically though these Fling events have been a riot to watch, and bring life changing prizes, giveaways, and winner purses to the table. We’ve seen the results up close and personal over the years and can’t say enough about just how fun these events are to be a part of. So when you combine the wonders of a Fling event, with what some consider to be the finest drag racing facility in the country, GALOT Motorsport Park, you are bound to create something special.

This weeks event hasn’t been without some drama as rain came through yesterday, but that didn’t stop the track crew from getting things ready and putting a surface together that could crown some winners.

Today’s purse is $25,000, so lets see who is going to win it!

The Colonial Classic Bracket Race Is LIVE From Virginia Motorsports Park!

The crew at Virginia Motorsports Park is one of the best in the business, and they were fully set for this weekend’s 7th Annual Colonial Classic, when the rain came. Friday was a wash out as the the water got under the rubber and required a complete track scrape to the 1/8th mile mark before reprepping could begin. Plus more rain was coming Friday early evening. But it is Saturday now, the track crew has tirelessly worked to get this surface into full bitchin mode, and racing is scheduled to start this morning! Friday’s purse will carry over to today so that means the money is going to be even bigger for Saturday nights champion!

This is another Loose Rocker Promotions event, which everyone who attends love, so we’re sure that with their expertise and the unbeatable track crew at VMP, that they will make this weekend great. And who wouldn’t think it was great if they are taking home the win and at least $10,000? That isn’t too shabby, that’s for sure. With the year we have had so far, just getting out and racing is something to be proud of and the crew in Virginia has been diligently working with health officials and local, state, and federal agencies to do everything they can to make the racing environment safe and fun for the racers and fans. We commend them on these efforts as we know they are NOT easy.

So grab a snack, a beverage, and your screen because the racing is scheduled to start any minute!

Project Bottle Rocket Coronet: Uncle Tony’s Featherweight Mopar Project Finally Sees The Track!

I’ve been looking forward to this video more than I think Uncle Tony and Lamchop have…and that’s probably underrating how badly they’ve wanted this video to happen. The “Bottle Rocket” Coronet, their stripped-down taxicab Dodge that’s packing a 318 that acts like a pissed-off 340, a four-speed swap, and a ton of tricks that come straight from the catalog of DeFeo’s book of witchcraft, has been patiently waiting for a chance to hit a drag strip. Now, originally, this should’ve happened months ago, but besides the pandemic, there’s been another wrench in the plans: Lamchop’s cancer treatments. No matter how badly they wanted to get the car to the track, and how badly they wanted to see what it would do, his health takes priority over all. So it’s taken until the start of summer to get the Coronet lined up at the tree.

Now, why was I so antsy to see this? In my back catalog of cars is an infamous item: a 360, four-speed swapped 1987 Dodge Diplomat ex-cop unit that was known as “Warhammer”. When I saw the Coronet rock through the shifts the first time, I had flashbacks like you wouldn’t believe. Warhammer was the first car with any kind of mentionable power that I took to the dragstrip. At a test-and-tune at Temple Academy (read: Little River Dragway), the Diplomat’s one balls-out lap went like this: at the green, I stalled it trying to soft-launch the car. I restarted the car, tried again…and stalled again. I fired it off again and I let the car go fully unleashed. I lost the timeslip years ago, but the ballpark was low-17 seconds at over 110 miles per hour in the quarter. That meant that the Diplomat was nice and potent for an everyday-driver kind of car, and that with a check of tune, some cooler temperatures and a driver that actually knew what the f**k he was doing with three pedals and a shifter, that the Diplomat would be a rocker. The car never saw the strip again. So there is a bit of admiration (and a touch of jealousy, it must be said) for the learning curve that Lamchop is enjoying, because it’s something I didn’t do. Don’t cry for me, I’m planning on rectifying that soon enough.

Now, be sure to listen to the first part of the video…don’t skip ahead straight to the action. And understand that the Coronet isn’t going to be a sideways, smoking bucket of violence the first time out. This is the introductory lesson for Lamchop, and a sorting session for the Dodge. But enjoy it for what it is!
