The first Apple Watch released in April 2015, mirroring the functions and capabilities of the iPhone. Five years and 5 Series later, Apple has announced the 6th version of the watch line with even more impressive functions. The new devices operate using watchOS 7 to help power the most recent technological advancements in wellness and fitness competencies. A blood oxygen sensor and app have been added for individuals to help understand the body’s condition during the fitness journey. Apple will be using these health tracking apps to participate in a research study with the help of investigators at the Ted Rogers Center for Heart Research and the Peter Munk Cardiac Center at the University Health Network. All will be using the resources to help understand and work towards managing health issues such as heart disease and asthma.

The speed of the watch has increased by 20 percent to help with the new advancements. Battery life is at an all-day 18-hour length, with the quickness of a full charge dropped to 1.5 hours. Horologists were taken aback in January with the debut of the Gravity Equal Force. Armin Strom’s latest masterpiece has innovations that should be found in every self-winding watch. It is able to offer a power reserve of 72 hours thanks to a sprag clutch on the balance. Alpina, a Swiss watch manufacturer that was in 1883, has just unveiled their new Seastrong Diver Gyre Automatic line. The word “Gyre” is a reference to the start-up Gyre Watch who sources recycled material and gyres, circular ocean currents where a vast majority of the plastic waste in the ocean can be found. With this partnership, they have made the new Seastrong Diver Gyre Automatic’s case out of fishing nets that have been recycled. Alpina has created the new Seastrong Diver Gyre Automatic range in five different variations, including three men’s models and two ladies’ models. Each of these watches is powered by the AL-525 automatic movement that includes hours, minutes, seconds hands and it also tells the date. Each of the editions will be limited to just 1,883 pieces, a reference to the year that Alpina was founded. Each will come with an eco-friendly box that includes recycled material. Alpina will be launching this new line on June 8th, 2020, which happens to be World Oceans Day. A coincidence? Absolutely not. Alpina is aiming to draw attention to the major ocean cleanups that need to take place if we want to preserve our oceans. Fans of digital watches and Hublot can rejoice as the watchmaker has just debuted the new Big Band E Black Ceramic. This new “connected” watch comes after Hublot introduced their first of its kind back in 2018. Now, the new E Black Ceramic builds upon Hublot’s engineering capabilities and reputation by being the most stylish digital watch out there.
